Lovely later 1800’s English Ironstone/Blue Transfer Swinton’s Primrose Cold Cream Lidded Jar. There is an embossed letter p inside the lid and on the base of the jar. An underlined 2 is also on the base of the jar. The jar is decorated with a lovely blue transfer design of small flowers and sprigs with the maker’s name and product name on the top of the lid.
This Swinton’s Cold Cream Jar measures 1.5in height with the lid on, 2.75in width round on the top of the lid. and 2.5in round on the base of the jar.
Good Minus Antique Condition. The jar is in good condition for its age, but there are a few condition issues to discuss. There are some pin sized raised areas in the glaze on the lid with some minor staining. There is a small lack of glaze or surface chip on the top of the lid. The shallow inside to the jar is clean with small minor chipping on the raised inside rim of the jar, one small chipping on the rim of the lid and small chipping on the bottom rimmed base of the jar. There is age-related crazing and staining noted.
Despite the aforementioned condition issues, the Swinton’s Primrose Cold Cream Jar is in good, collectible condition. Please review all photos for they are part of this item’s description and condition evaluation.
This Swinton’s Lidded Jar is a nice example of a decorative ironstone cold cream jar from an earlier time.
